Vinyl
Vinyl: Vinyl can be used in a variety of ways depending on which type of vinyl is being used.
The main difference between the various types of vinyl is the method of application. Some vinyl is self-adhesive. This type of vinyl is basically
like a sticker. Another type of vinyl is applied using heat and pressure. The real difference being the type of factory coated adhesive applied to it.
There is also vinyl which is pressure sensitive so it can be applied by simply squeeging onto a clean, smooth surface.
Vinyl is most widely used in signage. (banners for eample) However, it's also commonly used for sports jerzees. The names and numbers you see on the
backs of team apparel is commonly vinyl. But with it's wide array of textures and colors, it's also commonly used for simple designs on garments. Vinyl
is just a material that comes in either sheets or rolls, so it has to be cut accordingly.
Here we will just focus on garment vinyl.
basic steps:
1. artwork preparation/separation* (if necessary)
2. cad-cutting the vinyl
a. weeding and masking the cut film
3. applying the film to substrate
* it should be noted that ,as with screenprinting, multicolor vinyl designs need separated art
