Sublimation
Sublimation: The process of transferring a digital print to a substrate using pressure and heat.
The ink is a Dye-Sublimation ink. When heated, the ink is "sublimated" and temporarily enters into a gas phase which actually dyes the material being
imprinted.
basic steps:
1. artwork preparation (not separation)
2. printing the design (digital print) onto special sublimation paper using dye-sub ink
3. applying the print to substrate
pros-superior image detail, no set up fees, huge variety of substrates possible
cons-for garment applications: limited to polyester material, designs always have matte finishes
for hard substrates: due to the polyester coating applied, items cost more
slower production times
